Message From The President
We had a good July 4th Parade event. (See pictures on our web site.) Marchers and supporters included Dennis Hartman (cadence caller extraordinaire), Bill Griffin, Steve Penner, Jack Silveria, Bill Frieburg (latter three - flag carriers), Keith Perkins (assigned to the back row so that he didn’t get lost up front), Jim Certa (looking spiffy in uniform, last seen in the company of two young ladies at Madison’s), Bill Stewart (fulfilling two roles as he was also to be on the reviewing stand), Rolf Brinkman, Dave Ortiz, Hap DeSimone, Don Matter, Mike Mazur, Malcolm Hamilton, Mario Pintor, Cheryl Silveria (who graced the helicopter with her presence, though to her dismay as it turned out to be too hot in there), George Ogle and his grandson Sequoia (both of whom washed down the helicopter before the parade), Chris Shemet and his wife, John Parsons, Bill Elliott, Lee Hood (recent Rolling Thunder/Wall Visitor), Charlie (keeper of the banner) and Cathy Franco, Matt Thomas and his helicopter towing crew, and Maria Perkins documenting events.
We were well received, were told we were the best looking military group, first time marchers commented on how rewarding it was, we collected donations at the helicopter after the parade and had a nice afternoon social hour mixed with monitoring the helicopter at/outside Madison’s Sports Grill. A few of us walked a few doors down State Street and had a early taco dinner.
We had good attendance at our monthly meeting, covered many maters including parade recap, a plaque re-do, Wall certificates of appreciation, Fiesta preparations, National Convention solicitation, helicopter plaque to acknowledge the painter’s contribution, our Proclamation from Mayor Blum, new flag poles, scholarship recommendation for new member’s son Josh Du Vendenk, adjourned by 7:30 and went for dinner at Rusty’s just down the street.
The Chapter has received $450 in donations in memory of Christino Pintor, Sr., World War II veteran and late father of member Mario Pintor.
The results of the first day of Fiesta are in. We had a good opening day, on par with the two best years of this millenium. We are really looking quite professional these days what with our stainless steel restaurant grade freezers, new friers, new food warmers, new stainless appliance table (Tom Palmeri donations) and marvelously constructed (Mike Mazur) booth. Come and visit, patronize, or help us at De La Guerra Plaza before closing Saturday night at 11:00 P. M. Corn dogs, Jalapeño Poppers, French Fries, Chicken Nuggets and Pink Lemonade.
Attention Vance Committee members: There will be a meeting of the Vance Committee at 5:45 P. M. on Tuesday, August 9, in the Harbor Room of the Veterans Memorial Building, immediately preceding the regular monthly meeting. See the rest of you at 6:15 P. M. Tuesday night.
Proudly representing and serving noble warriors with noble intentions,
Keith

The Santa Barbara Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America is a tax exempt, non-profit organization. Our members are Vietnam era (you need not have served "in country") Veterans and Associates (individuals from all walks of life who may or may not have served in the military). Our Chapter is successful because of the efforts of Vietnam Veterans, Vietnam Era Veterans, and Associates, all of whom are equally welcomed and prized. The Chapter’s Vance Committee distributes funds to qualified disabled American veterans.
