Annual Banquet

The location of our Annual Banquet/monthly meeting has been moved.

We will be meeting at 6:00 P. M. on Tuesday evening, December 13th (not the 8th as erroneously reported previously) at Fess Parker’s DoubleTree Resort at 633 East Cabrillo Boulevard in Santa Barbara (not Harry’s Plaza Café).

We will be meeting in the Fiesta room (3rd Floor, ocean view and balcony, elevator straight in, turn right). Dinner will include hors d’oeuvres, starters, entrée, accompaniments, dessert, no-host bar, coffee and tea service. The expense to attendees will be $20.00 per person.

The low attendee cost reflects that we are really combining two events this year as we didn’t have our usual post-Fiesta thank you dinner.

Very important - RSVP to me (805 682-0550 any time) by Monday, December 5,

1)with number of attendees and selection of chicken breast, salmon, tri-tip or vegetarian.

2)If you are due for a 5, 10, 15, 20 year or life member pin, be sure to let Dennis Hartman (965-2161) know immediately so that we can be sure to have it on hand for the banquet.

News

Our November meeting was well attended with nearly 20 present. We had a progress report on soliciting candidates for hurricane aid (basically, awaiting responses), passed around the nice photo plaque that Gerry Roberson had made to thank the helicopter painting crew, got an update on our “members at large” strategy, had a presentation by Dave Traeschefr (sp?) of Santa Maria on his efforts to get a special veterans license plate, worked out Annual Banquet details, had the usual membership, financial and meeting representative reports, and discussed Veterans Day parade logistics.

And speaking of Veterans Day, Bill Steward and Woody Wilde were in uniform at the ceremony at the Santa Barbara Cemetery and both presented our wreath. A dozen or so of us attended the Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Building where we heard talks from Lois Capps, a Major General, an Admiral, medal of honor winner Walter Ehlers, and the 425th Command Sgt. Major. Some of us were then brave enough to partake in the tri-tip and chicken luncheon before our march up State Street.

Thanks to marchers Bill Stewart, Bill Frieburg, Mike Mazor, Jack Silveria, Hap DeSimone, Don Matter, Bill Griffin, Jim Certa, Domongo Nuñez, Charlie Franco, Rolf Brinckman, John Parsons and Dan Oroz.

Also seen in attendance Cheryl Silveria, Stefanie (Salata) Davis, George Ogle (and the helicopter), Janet Brinckman, Matt Thomas, Caroline Nuñez, John Selfreidge, Matt Thomas, Maria Perkins, Malcom Hamilton, and Joe Narkevitz (who was presented a special service award).

And thanks to all for giving me the flexibility to march (wearing our Chapter T-shirt) with the Marine Corps League to shore up their marching ranks (they also had half a dozen members riding in a hummer).

Remember to cast your vote for Member of the Year. Mail your ballot to John Parsons (548 Calle Aparejo, Santa Barbara, CA 93111).

Proudly representing and serving noble warriors with noble intentions,

Keith

The Chapter meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Veterans Memorial Building at 112 W. Cabrillo Boulevard at 6:15 P. M. The meetings usually last around an hour. Several members usually go out for an informal dinner at Moby Dick’s Restaurant (or elsewhere) on the nearby wharf after the meeting.

Our Chapter is successful because of the efforts of Vietnam Veterans, Vietnam Era Veterans, and Associates, all of whom are equally welcomed and prized. The Chapter’s Vance Committee distributes funds to qualified disabled American veterans.
