Message From The President

Fiesta is upon us. For those of you who have enjoyed the event with us at the booth before, we look forward to seeing you again. This is sometimes the only time we see you during the year. If you haven't revelled in the fun of the booth before, come and participate, or just come and introduce yourself.

We'll be building the booth in De La Guerra Plaza Saturday morning, July 29 starting at 8:00 A. M. and probably finishing up the bulk of the work by Noon or so, though some will be around well into the afternoon. We open for business Wednesday, August 3 at 11:00 A. M. and will be open until 11:00 P. M. every night through the 6th. For those of you who would like to contribute but just don’t have the time or inclination to work on the booth, contributions are welcome.

Call me (682-0550) or Don Matter (962-1688)if you have any questions.

We again had a pleasant and well attended (20) meeting. We covered a lot of topics and were finished by 7:40. Hap DeSimone reported from California State Council that he attended a very helpful meeting on agent orange. Hap is going to try to schedule a presentation for one of our monthly meetings.

Guest Loren Manes, Event Chairman from the Elks Club, made a presentation and requested that we donate $200 for their Motorcycle Poker Run that will take place on Sunday, September 10. We requested that those responsible for the Veterans Fund - to which the sponsorship money would go - attend our next meeting to clarify how the Veterans Fund money is disbursed.

We welcomed new member Jay Wetherall. It was reported that the museum project has proceeded to the next phase (Veterans Organizations voted 7 to 3 in favor.) which is a seismic study. Gerry Roberson reported that the elevator repairs are still in process. Gerry is also researching flag mounts for the helicopter and/or trailer. Domingo Nunez is looking for a ‘giveaway’ vehicle for his daughter upon her release from the hospital.

Correction: John Palmeri? Red-faced correction. Must have been a senior moment short circuit involving Tom Palmeri and local news reporter John Palmenteri. Sorry. My fault. We anxiously await major Fiesta contributor Tom for his annual visit to help with the booth.

Note that this month’s meeting will be quite early, Tuesday, August 8th, barely off of Fiesta. Hope to see you there.

Proudly representing and serving noble warriors with noble intentions,
Keith

The Chapter meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Veterans Memorial Building at 112 W. Cabrillo Boulevard at 6:15 P. M. The meetings usually last around an hour. Several members usually go out for an informal dinner at Moby Dick’s Restaurant (or elsewhere) on the nearby wharf after the meeting.

The Santa Barbara Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America is a tax exempt, non-profit organization. Our members are Vietnam era (you need not have served "in country") Veterans and Associates (individuals from all walks of life who may or may not have served in the military). Our Chapter is successful because of the efforts of Vietnam Veterans, Vietnam Era Veterans, and Associates, all of whom are equally welcomed and prized. The Chapter’s Vance Committee distributes funds to qualified disabled American veterans.
