Message From The President

Welcome to the New Year.

If you celebrated a religious holiday, I hope you had a joyous event. To all of you and yours, I hope you have a healthy and happy 2006.

We had a fine annual awards banquet at Fess Parker’s Red Lion Resort. There were a couple of glaring oversights on my part. My apologies for not mentioning Gerry Roberson and all of the great work he has done on behalf of the Chapter for so many years, years extending to well before my time. My apologies to Peter Bie for not publicly acknowledging that he made a special trip to the hotel to provide and set up the audio equipment, and that he provided the musical entertainment CDs.

Also, in our non-normal meeting setting, I neglected to - as is our practice - have new member Richard Lindekens introduce himself and tell us a little bit about himslef and his military service. He also wanted to introduce his member prospects John Fehrs (who has since submitted his application) and Leo Glover. And my thanks to Patricia Rumpza who was good enough to move to another table ‘mid-salad’ to make two consecutive seats available to a couple. Finally, my apologies to anyone I missed. Believe me, it was an inadvertent oversight as I am so thankful for the effort and contributions you all make.

Congratulations to Bill Stewart

who was elected Member of the Year. He has submitted the following for inclusion herein:

“Members of VVA Chapter 218: It is such an honor to have been voted by you as Member of the Year for 2005. It was absolutely completely unexpected! Your friendship and support means everything to me! I am so honored to be a member with you of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 218. Thank you from the depth of my soul. You are what makes America great!”

Thanks, Bill.

As a minor aside, I will not at this time admit that Maria and I - obviously either forgetting or ignoring our age - immediately after the dinner, drove down to Universal City to see the opening day, Midnight screening of King Kong. Though I can not claim consciousness throughout, we found the movie to be entertaining, effective and true to the original.

We’ll start the year off with our monthly meeting at the Veterans Memorial Building at 112 W. Cabrillo Bouldvard at 6:15 P. M on Tuesday, January 10. I look forward to seeing you there.

Proudly representing and serving noble warriors with noble intentions,

Keith

The Chapter meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Veterans Memorial Building at 112 W. Cabrillo Boulevard at 6:15 P. M. The meetings usually last around an hour. Several members usually go out for an informal dinner at Moby Dick’s Restaurant (or elsewhere) on the nearby wharf after the meeting.

The Santa Barbara Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America is a tax exempt, non-profit organization. Our members are Vietnam era (you need not have served "in country") Veterans and Associates (individuals from all walks of life who may or may not have served in the military). Our Chapter is successful because of the efforts of Vietnam Veterans, Vietnam Era Veterans, and Associates, all of whom are equally welcomed and prized. The Chapter’s Vance Committee distributes funds to qualified disabled American veterans.
