Message From The President
Attendance for our August meeting was down a bit. However, it is summer time and probably of more impact, the meeting came within just a few days of the end of Fiesta - an event that so many members had put in so much time.
The Chapter extended it’s condolences to Jim Certa whose mother had just recently passed away. Elks representative Loren Maines gave a follow-up presentation on the request for sponsorship and funds for their poker run in September. After discussion, the membership voted to not be involved with the event.
There was a discussion of a cover for our helicopter but in the absence of key members it was decided to table the item for future discussion. We also discussed the offer of a new sign for the Fiesta booth, another item tabled for future discussion. Also tabled were discussions involving our adoption of a semi-trailer currently located at the Armory when it became apparent that such a course might carry with it significant entanglements.
Hap DeSimone, our California State Council representative requested another volunteer to attend such meetings, either with him or in the event of his inability to attend. The meeting usually involves a trip to the Fresno area, a Friday and Saturday night stay, and release Sunday about Noon after a morning meeting. Travel expenses are covered either by the State Council or our Chapter.
It was announced that arrangements have been made to have the year end Awards Banquet held at Harry’s Plaza Café in December. Details will be communicated when they are formulated. George Ogle reported on the Ventura County Stand Down to which we contributed $510 for transportation. The event is of significnt help to veterans (particularly homeless vets) and it was suggested that the Chapter try to be even more involved next year.
Guest Gary Colletti, California State Council Southern District Director described EZ Wal Mart grants, California State Military Reserve opportunities for those up to and over 62 years of age, and suggested that the Chapter have a Veterans Service representative. Let us know if you would like to serve as the Chapter’s source for getting information about services available to veterans.
This month’s meeting is Tuesday, September 12th. Don Matter will be giving us a report on the financial results of Fiesta. Gerry Roberson may be presenting ideas for modifying the helicopter trailer to accommodate flags. Hap DeSimone will be discussing arrangements for a guest speaker on Agent Orange. We’ll also revisit some of the issues tabled at last month meeting.
Proudly representing and serving noble warriors with noble intentions,
Keith
The Chapter meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Veterans Memorial Building at 112 W. Cabrillo Boulevard at 6:15 P. M. The meetings usually last around an hour. Several members usually go out for an informal dinner at Moby Dick’s Restaurant (or elsewhere) on the nearby wharf after the meeting.

The Santa Barbara Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America is a tax exempt, non-profit organization. Our members are Vietnam era (you need not have served "in country") Veterans and Associates (individuals from all walks of life who may or may not have served in the military). Our Chapter is successful because of the efforts of Vietnam Veterans, Vietnam Era Veterans, and Associates, all of whom are equally welcomed and prized. The Chapter’s Vance Committee distributes funds to qualified disabled American veterans.
