Message From The President

Attention members: Please reserve Memorial Day, Monday, April 28. The Chapter will be conducting a Memorial Day event (see below) at Elings Park and we will be taking an overdue Chapter members photo. Please be there - in uniform if circumstances permit. Thanks.

Another well attended meeting. Coordinating council member Hap DeSimone reported that Assembly Bill 279 will allow Patriot Guard Riders to stand between veteran funeral protesters and the family. He also reported that the PTSD Support Group will meet monthly. Call Hap (962-5765) for details or to express your interest or support.

Gerry Roberson confirmed that the wheelchair was successfully delivered in San Antonio, Texas. The membership voted to award three $500.00 scholarships through the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara.

The membership voted to again conduct a Memorial Day service which we have not done for at least a couple of years. Plans are rudimentary at this juncture, but we are undertaking to reserve the upper area at Elings Park. Tentatively, our ceremony well commence at 1:00 P. M., Gold Star families will be invited and honored as will Iraq veterans. We will have an early afternoon barbecue following the ceremony. Chapter member Peter Bie has volunteered to undertake master of ceremonies duties, repeating his role earlier in the day in Carpinteria.

Finally, the voting was concluded and tallied with results as represented on page one of this newsletter. If anyone else wishes to volunteer for Vance duties, just let me know.

This month’s meeting will include a brief presentation by Bill Connell (“A. K. A. HOT-DOG-MAN! H.D.M.!”), Vietnam Era Veteran, regarding his ongoing battle with the State. We hope to see you at the meeting.

Proudly representing and serving noble warriors with noble intentions,
Keith

The Chapter meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Veterans Memorial Building at 112 W. Cabrillo Boulevard at 6:15 P. M. The meetings usually last around an hour. Several members usually go out for an informal dinner at Moby Dick’s Restaurant (or elsewhere) on the nearby wharf after the meeting.

The Santa Barbara Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America is a tax exempt, non-profit organization. Our members are Vietnam era (you need not have served "in country") Veterans and Associates (individuals from all walks of life who may or may not have served in the military). Our Chapter is successful because of the efforts of Vietnam Veterans, Vietnam Era Veterans, and Associates, all of whom are equally welcomed and prized. The Chapter’s Vance Committee distributes funds to qualified disabled American veterans.
