THE MOVING WALL 2011

In October of 2011, for the first time since 2005, VVA Chapter 218 was honored to bring The Moving Wall to Santa Barbara. The Moving Wall, is half-size replica of the Vietnam War memorial in Washington, DC.

For five days only, starting on September 29 and ending on October 3, this replica of the starkly beautiful Vietnam Wall War Memorial was on display on Cabrillo Blvd. on the ocean side of Chase Palm Park. The five day exhibit, organized by VVA Chapter 218 featured opening a dedication ceremony on Saturday, followed by a flyover of Vietnam-era aircraft (including helicopters and fixed wing aircraft), followed by a luncheon for dignitaries in attendance and Sunday evening we held a Candlelight Vigil at dusk.

This mobile replica wall was designed to honor the sacrifice of the 58,000 men and women who died — as well the 2.8 million who served — in the Vietnam War. The wall was available 24/7 for the whole five day period and visitors brought notes, photos, artifacts and many other items that served to honor loved ones. Members of the UCSB ROTC stood guard at the illuminated wall 24/7 for the full five days, encouraging visitors to come anytime. Docents were available to assist visitors in any manner as they reflected on the memorial.

It was an AMAZING experience having "The Moving Wall" here in Santa Barbara! Thank you to everyone who came out to pay there respects and show their support of all Veterans.

We extend a special thank you to our many sponsors, without whom this experience would have not been available:
